FOSS+beer 022: MAD Miracle

A MAD story | NPM Kik left-pad issue | (open source) security issues | Fort Collins Brewery

Beer:

Fort Collins Brewery

But first, a wee bit of a story about last time we tried to record this episode…

  • Began as a German lager house in 2003; in 2007 added packing line; in 2011 added a tavern in the brewery (where we ate)
  • Family business in its second generation of ownership as of 2014
  • Recently have been moving to cans (from bottles previously)

Nerd & Tell:

Mark’s new hardware (@ 37:47 in)

  • Mark now has an implanted Medtronic SureScan MRI Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
  • Boups has read the owner’s manual to make sure Mark hasn’t done anything contraindicated
  • Battery only lasts 4-7 years and starts beeping when it needs to be replaced
  • Data is getting sent off every night…(is this secure?)
  • Mark is still learning about the details of the device and do’s and don’ts, so he hasn’t asked for the source code (yet), but check out what Karen Sandler has to say on this topic
